The name Heartlight Dobermans comes from my commitment to promote cardiac testing, early detection, raise awareness and support research to find answers to save our breed from arrhythmia and dilated cardiomyopathy.

 

 

Board Certified Cardiologist Dr. Nancy Morris, ACVIM Cardiology

Dr Nancy Morris received her Batchelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Oregon Institute of Technology in 1985 where she graduated Magna Cum laude. The American Society of Clinical Pathologists certified her as a Medical Technologist (MT). She received her DVM degree in 1990 from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. She served as a research technician for Frank Pipers, DVM, PHD in a project to validate echocardiography in dogs as a means to determine left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction using modified Simpson's approximation technique. Dr. Morris spent the next year at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital interning in small animal medicine and surgery. The next 7 years were spent in private practice. In 1997, Dr. Morris returned to Angell for a 2 year residency in cardiopulmonary medicine and she is a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), specialist in cardiology. Recently Dr. Morris was the Medical Director and President of the Cape Animal Referral and Emergency Center LLC in South Dennis, MA. She is a partner in the CARE hospital and provided the creative vision for practice and business development, and managed the start -up of this multi-door, specialty hospital.



She has also been in cardiovascular research. She recently completed a multi-center FDAICVM clinical trial for a new Phosphododiesterase If inhibitor drug (Pimobendan) to treat congestive heart failure in dogs. She has served as a consultant to biotech, medical device manufacturer and pharmaceutical development companies such as the Genzyme Corp, Charles River Labs, Transoma, Viacor and Advanced Tissue Sciences.
